Didn't we do well--------------!!!

Today was the Renfrewshire Federation Show of the SWRI and our Branch here in Lochwinnoch won the Handicraft Table Alcove----see the first picture "A Touch of Spring", we also won 3rd for the "foursomes" "Carnival" see the second picture. I was responsible for the invitation part of it. These two classes are group efforts.

Much to my astonishment my embroidered picture won the Curran Cup for embroidery. So all these hours spent stitching my "S is for Spring" paid off!! This is the first time I have entered such a thing so I am feeling quite chuffed!!

March Quiltlette

The March Quiltlette challenge is to incorporate a photo into the design, my effort is above. As I am making each month's quilt reflect on what is growing in the garden, the photo is of the Tete-a-Tete daffodils growing just under the dining room window. The quilting, I hope, looks like a vine with leaves. The colours chose reflect those in the photo.

Yesterday was one of these magical spring days with wall-to-wall blue sky and a glorious warming sun, so we had a gardening afternoon when I got the roses pruned and more of the winter's gunge cleared from the herbaceous border. Today is of course back to the gloom and damp! I think yesterday must have spurred my tidying genes as I spent today having a good blitz in the sewing room--------it really is amazing what you find in the corners that you had forgotten you had !

Spiralling out of control !

In my last entry I mentioned I had at last, time to try some Spiral quilt designs from a book I got at Christmas. This I have been doing for the last couple of weeks in between other domestic doings.

I really am having to push my boundaries with this! Of course I plunge into it with gay abandon thinking this will be a dawdle-------not so ! Some of my efforts above. I am not going to let this beat me as I hope to use the method in a quilt I have in mind.

I will try again using EQ to aid the design, and am going to try out various foundation papers to see just which ones I like. I will also curb my enthusiam for a complicated design at this stage and go for something simpler! So it is "practice, practice, practice". You really have to keep concentration at the optimum not to add the wrong colour to a spiral---don't ask how I know, but suffice to say there has been a lot of cursing and ripping out in this house :-)

The garden has taken a check with this sudden really cold snap, and so we will leave it to come -to before tackling it again.

I am also about to finish the March quiltlette for the BQL challenge which I will do this weekend.
